JGJ Recognized with Building Excellence Award
April 2, 2019
We are proud to share that John G. Johnson Construction recently received the Construction Employers Association Building Excellence and Craftsmanship Award for the Mueller Lofts project! This special award recognizes the construction professionals who build Greater Cleveland.
JGJ served as the Construction Manager at Risk for the Mueller Lofts historic tax credit project. The 68,000 SF former home to Mueller Electric Company, maker of the common electrical alligator clip, was converted into 51 market rate apartments for this multi-family project. The building conversion created six studios, 26 one-bedroom, 15 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom apartments, with predominately 14 foot high ceilings.
Initially built in 1922, the Mueller Electric building had a total of nine different additions to the initial structure as the business grew over the years. As a result, the Mueller Lofts project team had to overcome several challenges and provide creative solutions to achieve a cohesive and modern lifestyle building, despite different building materials from various eras during the lifecycle of the historic building.
Congratulations to the entire project team on this milestone achievement!
